WHAT I DO
My philosophy is simple: challenge and nurture leaders (and teams) with a proven strength-based approach. That’s how to grow a healthy, thriving organisation.
HELPING LEADERS THRIVE
Can you smell the fish?
It is said ‘the smell of a fish comes from its head.’ An organisation’s culture and, consequently, its performance originates from its leaders. If the organisation ‘stinks’ then, typically, so does its leadership. For an organisation to thrive it should look first to develop its leadership.
Send them on a training course?
No, please don't.... Research suggests that 90% of all new learning is lost with a year if it is not reinforced in some way. By combining experiential learning with confidential on-the-job coaching, you not only retain the new knowledge but you build individual (and thus organisational) capability. It’s this blend of effective upskilling which I have been doing for years, with verifiable results.
In fact this combination of experiential learning and coaching is so good that it was joint winner for the overall Excellence Award in the 2015 State Services Commission and the Leadership Development Centre Awards for Improving Performance Through Leadership Excellence with the Xcelr8 and Particip8 programmes. I have been privileged to be part of a small team at the heart of the transformation of the Canterbury Health System, an ongoing transformation that has won international accolades, and where Xcelr8 and Particip8 were instrumental in helping leaders thrive.… > READ MORE
But my team is unique.
That’s why I don’t believe in a ‘one size fits all’ solution. However, a proven formula which addresses technical and behavioural learning needs, coupled with individual and group coaching, delivered over time, is a solution I certainly believe in. It’s a solution which improves organisational performance. It helps leaders thrive.
I don’t believe in one solution fitting all needs. Besides that would be boring! I do believe that a mixture of technical learning, behavioural learning and coaching through the reflection and application of that learning is the way to help people and the organisations they lead thrive. Each organisation has different needs but using the formula of different learning needs plus individual and group coaching and learning over a 12 month period results in award winning performance improvement.
- Award winning, bespoke leadership programmes.
- On-the-job coaching.
- Tailored for any level of leader – from team leaders to executives.
Your organisation’s best people
+ My external perspectives and experiences
= Your leaders thriving, long after I have left the building.

What is coaching?
Just like a sports coach takes good players and helps them become champions, behavioural coaching helps individuals and teams advance to a ‘future desired state’. It’s a marriage between your organisational and technical expertise and my behavioural insight, challenge, perspective, and structures. It’s a synergistic relationship – together we achieve more than we would separately... >VIEW MORE
Deceptively powerful
Frank was a director of a company which had a strong culture but the business faltered slightly – finances were tight and the team was plodding. I worked with them for twelve months. Frank later admitted he was sceptical at the outset; he couldn’t see how my unassuming (in his words “undercooked”) coaching approach would relieve the challenges they faced. Another year has passed, and Frank can’t believe the change in his business – they have beaten the original challenges plus nurtured the belief and skills to tackle any future trials. Whether it’s helping government departments to break down their silo thinking, or working with energy companies to develop new revenue streams, my bespoke coaching is a deceptively powerful way to help your team thrive, today and tomorrow.

How do we start?
CONTACT ME if you would like to hear more.
PUBLIC SPEAKING
Organisational change. Leadership. Workplace behaviours.
These are the topics I can talk about all day, and I love to. If you need a speaker to challenge an audience, entertain an audience, or share insights to fuel an audience’s fire, then please consider me for your next engagement.
- Firstly, we determine if we want to work together. Your ‘future desired state’ goal may be individual or organisational (or both), so we sketch out a rough plan over a coffee.
- Secondly, we decide together how frequently to meet. Coaching a team is much more effective face-to-face. Working with individuals can be by Skype, telephone, or in person. The arrangement is reviewed regularly to ensure it’s working for you.
- Thirdly, keep in mind two expectations: I invest energy and focus on our coaching relationship and I expect you will also. Once we reach a point where you feel I am no longer adding value I expect you to say “enough” and we’ll stop working together. No contracts. No fixed-duration programmes. Just open, respectful communication.
